The purpose of the study was to qualitatively scrutinize the process by which a middle-aged Taiwanese woman employed self-guided bibliotherapy to alleviate her bereavement over her younger brother’s suicide. The data sources included face-to-face, MSN and Skype interviews, self-help bibliotherapeutic materials, the participant’s written works, mind-mapping and member checking. The researchers took stock of these data, using a conceptual framework, the model of the A-B-C theory by Ellis (Corey, 1996), which can describe how the participant moved on by dint of self-guided bibliotherapy. This study facilitates a better understanding of the effectiveness and importance of self-guided bibliotherapy in daily life. Pedagogically speaking, educators and school counselors may utilize bibliotherapy to boost students’ bibliotherapeutic energy and offer the resources available to them, the current or the future. Moreover, interested researchers may work on further studies related to bibliotherapy in normal teaching contexts.
