The right choice of words not only goes a long way in developing a right kind of attitude but is also helpful in developing the much needed social intelligence that plays a vital role in developing better social relations. The learning of language is one of our most basic capacities and skills, and it is largely through language that we learn how to organize our experiences, how to perceive what is going on around us, how to label external events and internal feelings, in short how to think. It is through language that we learn values, what we should aspire or not aspire for, how to interpret our experiences and give it meaning, how to relate to other human beings and precisely how to manage feelings. Teachers who are comfortable with and who understand their own emotions and the emotions of others, in other words teachers who are emotionally intelligent, are certainly going to be better at teaching these skills to children. I think it would be very hard for a teacher to deal with all this emotional content if they were uncomfortable dealing with it themselves. The kind of language that a teacher makes use of while describing a situation, would make an everlasting impact on the psyche of a child. Research shows that emotions are contagious. This is a simple, common-sense statement. But its very simplicity tempts us to overlook its profound implications for education. Sensing what others feel without their saying so captures the basis of human side of communication. This paper aims at studying the impact of language in teaching values, attitude and sensibility as these make us humans in the real sense.
