Michael Lynn-George obtained his PhD from Cambridge University, where he was a Fellow of King’s College, before moving to the University of Alberta in Canada. He first broached some of the questions raised in this paper in his book "Epos: Word, Narrative and the Iliad," where he considered the Parry–Lord theory of orality. He has published widely in the areas of Homeric studies, literary theory and intellectual history.
